Forecast Discussion for Feb. 4th, 2010
by Dave Hovde, KSBY Meteorologist
The latest computer model run still shows rain for the Central Coast tonight, Friday, and Saturday. .50-1.75″ still looks likely with locally higher amounts on south facing slopes.
High wind advisory is in place from 3am-4pm Friday for S winds 15-30 with gusts to 40mph.
A gale warning is in place off the Central Coast with a Small Craft advisory for the east Santa Barbara channel for significant winds in excess of 25 to 35kt.
A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the Santa Barbara County Mtns and Southcoast for locations burned by recent wildfires since rain rates of up to .50″ per hour has the potential to cause debris flows.
The rain through Saturday is in a two part system. The front grinds through the area Friday morning with the strongest winds and heaviest rain, then there will be a brief lull in activity Friday evening and night before rain resumes Saturday. The Saturday opportunity could also include the possibility for scattered thunderstorms as the core of low pressure has upper level cold air to work with.
By Saturday night activity should die down with the next chance of rain being Tuesday.
