Tuesday also cool for the interior

by KSBY Meteorologist Dave Hovde

An upper level trough to the west and high pressure to te east puts the Central Coast directly in the middle of the two competing weather patterns. Currently the onshore winds and marine clouds are the dominant weather feature for the coast and the valleys with temperatures running well below normal in the valleys. Paso Robles was 20 degrees below normal yesterday and our forecast for today would still put Paso Robles well short of its typical mid-90s highs (we are forecasting mid 70s again today). For the beaches and coast the lingering clouds will keep highs in the 60s at the beaches and lower 70s in the coastal valleys about 5 degrees below normal. Some moderation in the high temperatures are expected later this week when near normal highs are re-established just as the weekend arrives.

For today: Some low clouds lingering near the coast otherwise clear. Highs from the lower 60s at the beaches to the lower 70s in coastal valleys with mid-70s in the interior. West winds around 15 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: Low clouds and patchy fog spreading inland. Lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s. West winds around 15 mph in the evening.

Wednesday: Low clouds and patchy fog then mostly sunny by mid afternoon except some low clouds lingering near the coast. Highs from the lower to mid 60s at the beaches to the 70s in the coastal valleys with lower 80s in the interior valleys. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: Low clouds and patchy fog spreading inland. Lows in the lower to mid 50s. Northwest winds around 15 mph in the evening.

Thursday: Low clouds and patchy fog in the morning then mostly sunny. Highs from the lower to mid 60s at the beaches to the mid 70s in coast valleys with the interior valleys returning to the lower 90s. Northwest winds around 15 mph in the afternoon.

Forecast cooler than normal to begin the week

by Dave Hovde, KSBY Meteorologist

Monday morning much of the Central Coast is looking at what we have seen for seemingly weeks, and that is plenty of marine influenced air.  Clouds were in at the coast and beaches to begin the day and even touched some of the interior valleys early.

A trough in the upper atmosphere is sitting off the West Coast and computer models suggest it’ll sit there much of this week.  This will keep onshore flow going and keep temperatures a few degrees below normal through the period for the Central Coast.  The coolest days look to be today and tomorrow, especially for the interior where only 80s are expected when mid 90s is more statistically average.  As for the beaches and coastal valleys: beaches should see the lower to perhaps mid 60s today with some areas of slow clearing while the coastal valleys should reach into the upper 60s and low 70s.  Tuesday looks similar before temperatures return to roughly normal readings (maybe just a hair below) for Wednesday through the weekend.

The clearing pattern will be similar to what we have seen recently with the interior valley finding the sun first with the coastal valleys second, beaches especially the W and NW facing ones could struggle with clouds into the afternoons.
